IRZU is a private research institute and was founded in 2008 in Ljubljana with the aim of filling a local content gap in the interdisciplinary field of contemporary sonic arts. Our activities cover the following three main areas: audio technology research (digital signal processing, sonic interaction design, music information retrieval, non-linear acoustics, etc.), artistic productions (performances, exhibitions, installations, films) and educational projects (lectures, workshops), which are mostly aimed at transmitting basic knowledge on the use of digital technologies and conceptual approaches in sonic arts, to local composers and inter-media artists. The scientific research at IRZU is oriented towards technologies that can be used in an artistic context, but which also exhibit a commercial potential. In our opinion, the complicated system of arts funding ij the NGO sector is not sufficiently developed to secure the existence of contemporary and experimental arts in our local environment. Through strategically placed interdisciplinary research, IRZU is actively working towards establishing an alternative funding resource for promoting experimental electronic arts and music in Slovenia. In February 2011 we established a spin-off company: Ultrasonic audio technologies Ltd., with the purpose of marketing and commercializing some of our products / research results. Ultrasonic Ltd. will also be one of the main sponsors of the ICMC 2012. For more information please visit IRZU.
The aim of the festival is to create a referential international platform for discussing the latest developments within audio technology research and the artistic trends in sonic practices. EarZoom is featuring international artists and scientists presenting state of the art research in exciting disciplines like machine listening, algorithmic composition, new interfaces for musical expression, gesture recognition, ubiquitous computing, ambisonic systems for virtual sound environment synthesis, etc. The invited artists and researchers give talks on their research activities, organization schemes and their artistic productions, and further, present those in form of live performances, installations and workshops. The festival also aims to creating a dialogue amongst existing Slovenian institutions which are already running individual cycles of contemporary music and sonic arts. Those are involved in the organization of the festival by either offering the infrastructure or producing individual festival components (events or concert series). For more information please visit EarZoom.

Otočec Castle, a jewel rising from the mists of the Krka River, is the only water castle in Slovenia and far around. Its earliest foundations were built in the Middle Ages, and its present appearance was created during the Renaissance when it became the property of Baron Ivan Lenkovič, the chief commander of the Croatia-Slavonia march. Otočec Castle was first mentioned in written documents in the 13th century, built on a small island in the middle of the Krka River east of the main settlement. The islet is linked to both banks of the river by bridges and the castle has now been converted into a small hotell. More
